Ok, thats a stupid design. Fair enough.

Yeah, there is just no way I can get any wrench down there to not let the standoffs spin, like if I'm at fault, I'll admit it, god I killed 3 motherboards forever ago because I did stupid stuff (it was like 3 or 4 years ago) I'll admit that. I have fallen off my bike going about 15 or 20 miles an hour with not helmet on (pedal bike) I probably could've tried harder to avoid it. I'll admit that, if I'm at fault, no matter how dumb it is. I'll admit it. But I just don't feel like I'm at fault here, yeah, to an extent I can be. But I feel like coolermaster and motherboard are more at fault than me.
But yes. I do agree, dumb design. I forgot that the design of the 212 evo was actually not that bad until I took the one off the mobo I'm using right now so yeah

Yea, both bad mobo design practice and a poor cooler mount design strategy. I will agree with this 100%, I have not seen the LED version mounting hardware previously. Thats pretty crappy :/

I can see why you, or anyone,  calling me an idiot with the evo mounting stuff in mind ?

The LGA 1155 board I'm using right now, which is made by intel, got the traces scratched by the risers from the cooler. And keeping power away from those areas doesn't mean keep data out of the area which would explain why on my broken motherboard that it can still boot, but once you try to do anything in the OS, boot to a thumb drive, it just doesn't work because it broke a trace that deals with data, not power. And fair enough, my motherboard should've been used with a different cooler. But it isn't just a one off motherboard that is like that. It's many motherboards that I have right now, and even newer motherboards have the same issue. Looking at some motherboards currently on amazon there are traces that are right next to the mounting holes. So it could easily happen to anyone, new or old.

I'm not blaming you for anything, please don't take it that way. I've seen similar issues with "dual mount" motherboards where traces have to be placed so close to cooler mounting holes that they end up scratched. I do think your cooler was either overtightened in the past or had something stuck to the washer that scratched the board when secured, but if that board had been designed in a sensible way...see where I'm going with this? All part of the reason that I genuinely hope the eventual Intel socket redesign doesn't prompt board manufacturers to do that shit again, although there already were some AM4 boards that have secondary mounting holes for AM3+, so whatever makes a quick buck I guess.

CM has excelled at overcomplicating things in the past, and to be totally honest about it, that plus their terrible value for the money right now is why I just don't bother with their coolers. If a Hyper T4 goes on sale for $5 and I need a cooler, any cooler, sure.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
