IPS or TN

Berko142

Hey Guys,

I hope you can help me. Has anyone got some experience with 1ms vrb IPS panels. Im thinking about either getting an IPS 1ms or TN 1ms Panel

Those two panels are extremely different from one another.

What are you needing IPS for? Why not VA?

1ms vrb IPS panels

Are they really vrb 1ms?

Comparison - https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/a55f892af

Seem quite different, but the IPS version has typical response time of 5ms. Had to google wth is vrb, but it seems to mean different things. Acer has it as Visual Response Boost™

First of all, manufacturer claimed response times are almost always BS. Don't trust them, and search for 3rd party reviews.

Next, a quick comparison of panel types:

TN panels have the best pixel response times, and are cheaper, especially at high refresh rates. But their colors and viewing angles suck. They are best to get if you have a low budget, or are pretty much an esports competitor.

VA panels have probably the best color, and have great viewing angles too. The only issue is the pixel response times can be slow, and there is often ghosting. They are a little more expensive then TN panels I believe, but are still pretty cheap.

IPS panels are probably the best of everything. They have great viewing angles, color, and pixel response times. Though this comes at a literal cost, as they are the most expensive of all three. A TN panel is faster, and a VA panel is more colorful, but it really shouldn't be that significant.

I can't tell too much about the amazon listing as it is not in english, but I'd recommend getting the IPS panel if both are the same price and have the same features.

A decent IPS panel is by far superior than a VA.

So you would recommend an IPS Panel with 4ms over an TN with 1ms for Gaming ? Or could you recommend some nice panels with 1440 resolution and 144hz

TN is the most responsive tech

IPS has the most saturated colors.

A Good VA is somewhat between, I'd prefer MVA. Not the most responsive, some IPS tend to be better in that aspect.

Recommending would be easier if knowing at least the videocard.  Because if the system can't handle 1440p very well, then that would have not much point.

Ok thats cool .. will be enough for 1440p in most things.

But not going to suggest anything, there are some more knowledgable people to suggest monitors.

All I can tell is I'd get an AOC CQ32G1 in that price range as Acers just because positive reviews and it's cheap here. Anyway In Amazon it's more expensive than here where I live.

TN = TO NOT buy.

@Berko142 100% true ... believe me, I have 2 TN panels!!!

24'', 2560x1440, 1ms, 144Hz ... sounded amazing, I even bought 2!! but then ...

Seeing movies bled my eyes, games are ok when they are moving ... soon I stop or in game menu ... ohhhh... my eyes!

TN Panels are terrible doing degradé coloring, and it's just bad bad bad...

I would choose (err, I will) a VA panel, as IPS is very good for people that do video/photo editing and color corrections ... I don't, I'm just a web developer and gamer :)

here's some pictures and video so you can see how bad it is in a TN panel: https://photos.app.goo.gl/HW6fkkxakq5JTjcc7

as I said before:

Quote

if it's mainly to see in front of the screen, why spend money on a IPS panel where we can get a great VA Panel for much less?

IPS:
+ better color reproduction
+ better colors across wider view angles
- refresh rates
- response times

VA:
+ better refresh rates
+ better contrast
- not good view angles
- color reproduction lower than IPS

TN:
don't even look at those ... I have 2... do. not. buy. them.

if you want a screen for gaming without spending much: VA panels will delivery better 2 things: contrast (HDR!) and refresh rates (great for FPS games)... if you want for video/photo editing and color correction ... IPS!
