Hello all,

I have an old pc, fx6300, asrock 970 pro3 r2.0, r9 380, 2x4gb hyper x fury 1600mhz.

The problem is it freezes after 10mins to a few hours of normal use or just idling. Also, sometimes it doesnt happen for a few days, after which it freezes a lot again. Everything becomes unresponsive and the screen stays on displaying the last image. Also the sound stops and buzzes. The lights, fans etc stay on. I have already swapped PSU, case, tried each memstick separately in each slot, different HDD, reseating, clean install.

I think that either the motherboard or CPU is dead. I dont think(or want) the gpu to be dead. I tried a different mobo and cpu and the system didnt really freeze anymore, but it was for a few days and didnt really use the pc that much. It did bsod, but i think that was memory incompatibility. I upped the voltage and the bsod's went away.

Do you guys think i should replace the mobo, cpu or perhaps the gpu?

Tnx!

(Fyi, the pc was a gift, for which i used my old parts. So it not working properly is really annoying.)

and didnt really use the oc that much

so you have an overclock and problems? first step is to get rid of the OC

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Have you updated bios? Worth a shot. https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970 Pro3 R2.0/#BIOS

What about memtest does it pass? Have you tried with only one stick?

Check if your memory is in A1 B1 slots:

Might be a "broken" windows install. Consider reinstalling windows and see if that works out.
Maybe it got even more confused by all that hardware swapping.

I've put a clean windows install on this pc and all the updated drivers etc. Twice already. I really think its a hardware problem. Just trying to figure out which part would be the likeliest to show these symptoms, so i don't have to replace everything. ?
