MSI z390I MPG (Why doesn't work both M.2?)

Franciscomartins

Hey guys

I finally got windows installed. But I noticed only one of 2 M.2 works at once. Nothing to do with the slot. I have both NVMe and a normal MSata installed. Both SSD works. But only 1 at the time

Why?

mSATA is a different connector, you mean M.2 SATA?

only M2_1 slot supports both SSDs, M2_2 slot only supports NVMe/PCIe SSD.

If you look at the manual, you will see that you can't plug anywhere you want....

So I have to change them? Because on the website doesn't say that they are different.

Yes I meant m.2 Sata on the back side motherboard and front I have NVMe

It's a MSI Z390I MPG or whatever it's called.

It's a mini Itx. Layout is different. But again I'm using a M2. Sata on back and front I'm using a NVMe. Why only shows 1 of both even if I change them?

OK now I'm angry. The guy sold me a M Sata because he said it's cheaper lol.

2x M.2 slots (Key M) M2_1 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2260/ 2280 storage devices* M2_2 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4, 2260/ 2280 storage devices Intel® Optane™ Memory Ready*** The SATA2 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SATA device into M2_1 slot.** Before using Intel® Optane™ memory modules, please ensure that you have updated the drivers and BIOS to the latest version from MSI website.

Does this mean I only can use 2 NVMe and no MSata at same time?

yes you have to put m.2 SATA in front, M.2 PCIe/NVMe at the back

you're copying that from the wrong page, this is what it says for the MSI Z390 ITX Gaming Edge AC

2 x M.2 slot (Key M)1

  • M2_1 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2260/ 2280 storage devices
  • M2_2 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4, 2260/ 2280 storage devices

Image_07S.jpgThe wider and shorter one is mSATA, the longer one M.2 B&M key (which is what SATA and PCIe x2 drives use)

Check the manual, i am sure there is that same picture for your mobo, to install the drives in the right order

Was checking.

Manual says the front supports both NVMe and M2Sata. Backside only NVMe. So maybe I can use both if I change the order.... Damn it's going to be a damn hard work after that fine cable management but ham would be my fault anyways

Let's hope it works. Got alote trouble to make windows install. It froze me everytime up when I tryed to boot
