Hi everyone,

recently, I have picked up folding, and today I opened HWInfo mostly just out of curiosity and I was shocked to see that my CPU cores (9700K, no OC) were sitting at ~ 95°C.

Furthermore, the voltage was cranked up to ~ 1.4V, and the clock was sitting at ~4900MHz.

These temps and the voltage seemed very unsafe to me, which brings me to the reason of this post.

Are these temperatures and voltages unsafe?

Do I have to limit the voltage? If yes, how?

Do I need a better cooler (currently using an Noctua NH-D9L)?

Is there anything else that I might need to take care of?

Thank you for your replies!

95c is quite hot but not unsafe yet according to Intel ARK 100c is the max allowed temperature for this CPU. It won't hurt to get some more cooling though. Maybe the CPU cooler is dusty? Not sure about the voltage. The BIOS settings are at default and voltage limits are enabled within the BIOS? Then it should be safe.

reapply thermal paste, also check if BIOS is at default

All core boost will obviously push a bunch more heat out, but... these CPUs are made to handle it. If they get too hot they slow down and that's it.

If you can increase cooling it'll always be better.

1.4v is high for stock. Check and make sure that Multi-core Enhancement isn't enabled. It's effectivley an auto-oc that's often enabled by default.

I just checked the BIOS and found that I had activated some Enhanced Torbo that I took for the all core boost, but simply "increases all CPU cores to maximum turbo ratio".
I set it to auto for now, and the temps are in the mid 80s.

The voltage also went down by ~ 0.1V

If you are into tweaking, you can get even lower voltage by setting it to adaptive and setting offset. However, I can't help further as I haven't learned that part of tweaking myself (I have constant manual voltage).
