Hey there, I'm new to the forums but have been watching the lmg channels for a while now. I'm feeling semi confident in building my own pc but I still don't know a lot about parts, compatibility, and bottle necking. I've used the canadian pc parts picker and this is roughly what I think I want. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/2JDRsk I'm going with AMD, but I'm not sure if the processor will be a bottle neck point or anything else? I need an optical drive because I'm not willing to re-buy games I have on disk lol. I'll mainly be using it for gaming with (preferably) high frame rates and high graphic settings. (Some games I currently play: Kingdom Come Deliverance, Dark Souls 3, Wolfenstien Old Blood & New order, Witcher 1&2, Shadow of Mordor, Dark Arisen, Banished, and more but I've had to play all of those on low settings) My max budget is 2600 CAD and I already have a keyboard, mouse, headset, and an external hard drive for backups. I'm also not sure if everything will fit ok in the case I chose as a comment on there was about tight space with the cable routing . I'm upgrading from my GE62 apache msi laptop:
GTX 1050
i7-7700HQ @ 2.8 GHZ
16GB RAM
I'm not planning on overclocking and I'll be looking into the config further when I get more time but if anyone has any input/suggestions I would really appreciate it, thanks!

Just looking at the parts you've chosen:

  • Don't get that cooler. The stock one's probably just as good. If you want something decent, get something like a Noctua or DarkRock.
  • Why do you have 2 SSDs? Not only that, why spend more on m.2? It's not faster. Save the money and get 2 2.5".
  • I wouldn't waste the money on a single fan.
  • 27" 1080p is kind of a garbage experience, you can pick up better, higher resolution monitors on eBay for about the same price.
  • Personally I'd get a nicer case and just get an external DVD drive, that's easier to transport build to build, but that's just me.

The rest looks pretty good, though I'd never get an MSI motherboard.

Thanks! Honestly i had no idea what if any benefit an m.2 would have lol , i’ll deff be doin that then ?

with the monitor, do you think the parts would be able to push high settings and frame rates with 2k 120/144hz (or something similar)?

Thanks for your help!

Yeah it should do decently, might have to drop a few things a little lower to really hit the highs but it'll still be a good experience.

I assume by 2k you mean 1440p...2k would be 1080p. 2560x1440p doesn't have any correlation to 2k.

its good, but would also aim for a board with 4 Dimms as that is very nice for potensial upgrades.

The SuperNOVA G2 was one great product and hardly found anyone having complains with it. Though not know alot about G3. The TXM 550 was around the same price but I ditched it because this was fully Modular.

Yeah, enough for the 3600 but yes it lacks 2 slots which are essential for future upgrade.

The G3 has issues. Ask @LukeSavenije. TXm is superior

i mean... at the started it completely lacked otp, protections are set too high and it's pretty much made to perform, not to be used in my opinion

g3 has shown issues with partly melting or even dying before shutting down on a protection
