I'm Looking for Expandable storage for my computer for all my ever expanding steam library. Ive maxed out my Computers Hard Drive slots and need more storage what are my options for external storage?

Im only looking for something that can just be connected to my computer and be expandable. Meaning i can add Drives as i go without having to reconfigure things.(if that's possible i don't know im new to this kinda stuff)

Ive looked into a couple of DAS storage's but it all goes over my head. Either Building 1 or 1 of the Pre-build 1's were you can just put HDD's in.

Any and all help accepted.

Do you have a budget?

Id probably go with a synology nas or a drobo here. Both allow easy just add a drive expansion and easy setup. The synology is a nas, so it works over the network, and the drobo is a das, so its usb. The synology lets you do other nas things aswell so multplie systems can access it if you want.

If you want diy, id go unraid on a older/low end system.

Change PC case. Choose one that allows 6 or more hdds. If you have not enough sata ports - buy pcie sata controller.

This. You can buy 16TB harddrives these days so if you get a case that supports 5 or 6 3.5" slots you can add plenty of games.

Would steam work over network storage? I’d assume not well. Considering SATA 3 is 5Gbps while the network is only 1 Gbps.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

It works fine over network storage, 1gbit network is about the same as a hdd, so most games will work fine. And 10gbe is pretty cheap.

I don't really have a budget just looking around to seeing what my options are. I just want something I can hide away and use as just solid storage . Buying a bigger case isn't an option as I'm limited on space and I already switched cases from a massive 1.
