OBS: Ryzen or nVidia?

Ragingsilver

Hi guys,

Just got a new PC and was wondering what is better to use to stream with OBS?

- Ryzen 3600X - If this then what profile is best?

- nVidia 1660Ti - If this then what profile is best?

With my old rig I relied on the GPU (970GTX) to do the donkey work.

Thanks in advance!

cpu encoding looks much better imo but if you lose too much fps go with gpu encoding

Why not try both and see it for yourself? NVENC on the 1660 Ti is a lot better than previous implementations.

IF you go with Nvidia Don't, ill repeat DON'T get a gtx1660ti. Why? Well, you could get a used gtx1080 which actually is better for the same price, at least here in the states. A 1660ti is basially a 1070ti. But a gtx 1080 beats both of those. Go check out some test.

A new gtx 1660 ti is about $280 - $350. On Ebay I see a gtx 1080 between $300 - $350 and that's "But it now" ones. So, you could simply buy a used gtx 1080.

1660ti does have NVENC engine so maybe you may want that. 1080 is simply more powerful.

I did my research and the 1660ti is more than what I need. I was just asking which method is better to use for streaming. The new 16 series all have a new NVENC engine as it's an option in OBS now. I ask because the hype behind ryzen being able to stream using the CPU with no lag or quality drop.

Right, that's why I said at the end about NVENC. So since you are using that then disreguard what I said.
