The new RM units are excellent from what I know

planning to upgrade my rig from:
i3 8100 to i7 8700
gtx 1050 ti to gtx 1070 ti mini

is a 530w psu enough for i7 8700 w 1070ti mini?

current specs:

i3 8100

zotac gtx 1050ti oc edition

8gb ddr4 2400 ram

1tb ssd

Thermaltake Smart SE Gold 530W 90% efficient

PS: not planning on overclocking

While 500Wnisore than enough, the Smart SE is very poor quality. I'd strongly suggest replacing it with something better like a BitFenix Formula or Be Quiet Straight Power 11 Gold. The Cooler Master MWE Gold and Corsair TXm are also excellent options

Thermaltake Smart SE Gold 530W is a rebranded CWT GPN 550W (it's actually 550W, not 530W). It's a low end platform with DC-DC converters. It's not garbage but its transient response isn't quite known, and if it's bad, your computer may shut down due to high transient spikes from top end graphics card. I'd keep your PSU and see if you encounter any problems.

Note to others: please notice it's not Thermaltake Smart SE Bronze (based on group regulated CWT GPM), but Smart SE Gold.

Look above. Your putting high end components. Don't cheap out on the thing that makes sure they don't die from random power fuckery

The ones 5x5 suggested would be good upgrades, and also Corsair CX550 for the cheapest option.

CX550 is average - not much of an upgrade. The MWE Bronze is slightly below the CX - the MWE Gold is good

you know... mwe gold is about cx level, just a bit higher efficiency

the mwe bronze depends if it's the old or the newer one, the old one was a group reg below 600w

I thought it was TX Bronze level since both are Tier A

meh, the rm honestly doesn't make sense, except if you can get it at a really good price

i'd personally take a txm over it

I remember Corsair were planning to update it since the RMx made it basically irrelevant a while back. Isn't the updated model better than the RMx or am I too drunk? :D

you're confusing the rmx with the rm. the rm is the same platform, but has some noise issues at low load because of a certain part starting to make a high pitched noise, has a downgraded fan and caps. the build quality on a txm is honestly better.

it's not a bad psu, there's just better out there

Am probably thinking RMi then unless that got killed off while I wasn't paying attention :D

even rmi is above it (and the rmx as well btw, unlike the rmx it's a multirail)

it just gets too close to hx/hxi pricing to make sense

too old, lacks some protections, regulates 5v and 12v together. it's not even close to the others
