rx 5700 or rx 5700xt bottleneck?

CaptainHabib
Go to solution Solved by Sorenson,

Depends on your resolution. Those are both considered “1440p” cards which will stress the GPU more. The 5700 xt will stress your cpu more at 1440p since higher frame rates stress the CPU more than the GPU. If you’re playing 1080p 60fps I would just stick with the 1060 6gb and turn settings down to high/medium if needed.

i want to upgrade my gpu

i have i7 3770 , p8h67-mlx , tx550m corsair , 1060 6gb strix asus

if i buy rx 5700 or xt . it will bottleneck? worth or no to upgrade?

If you're playing at 1440p or 4k it won't matter much.

If you're trying to do 1080p 240hz gaming then you might want a CPU upgrade sometime.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

bottleneck is a buzzword that has been thrown around to scare people

there's one here, but it's not big enough to bother too much about it

Bottlenecks are overrated if they're not on an extreme level. At 1080p though it's more cpu intensive than gpu intensive, so the cpu is going to hold these cards back. It's still going to be a good upgrade though, there's a giant difference between a 1060 and a 5700 - or 5700 xt

You're going to upgrade your monitor too aren't you? an RX 5700 is rather overkill for just a 1080p 60hz display.

If you stick with a 60hz display your current CPU isn't going to matter much.

Pick up a 4k 60hz free-sync display or a 1440p ultra wide at 100-120hz with the new GPU. They range from $300-400

you have a cpu bottleneck = you have a futureproof GPU!!!!
