Cross platform LAN

Strega

Hey im new here so let me start by saying hi to everyone. Im not very good at forum posting so forgive me if any of this is misplaced.

borderlands 3 is coming out in what I think is two weeks now. I wanted to throw a party for a few of my friends to play together, but we all have different systems. I’m wondering if anyone knows if and how to set up a cross platform lan system. 2 Xbox one’s I have 2 pc’s and 1 ps4 lmk please

As long as everything is on the same subnet and network at the LAN and the game supports cross platform with these systems, then theoretically they should be able to see any LAN game created.

I don't know much about games but I like to think I now a fair bit about networking. Are you looking to have them communicate peer-to-peer and if cross-platform is allowed within the game?

Are you planning to all connect to a remote game server and do those servers allow cross-platform?

Pretty sure OP is just talking about a good old school old fashioned LAN party.

I understand that. I'm not familiar with the game and if it's capable of peer-to-peer or if it requires a dedicated server to handle the communication between clients. That's issue 1. Next issue is cross-platform. Frequently platform developers don't allow it.

Should be peer to peer, but I dont think BL3 is going to be cross platform though.

Things get tricky when dealing with consoles. They're really wired to be used one way and one way only. I've not heard of a game that can be played on console via peer-to-peer (Excluding Nintendo consoles and at least without connecting out to the internet). If you connect to external servers that's not an issue they should all do that by default but the big issue is cross-platform communication and as stated above you're probably SOL there.
