the 212 works with all cpu sockets so it will work

Yes, but as with APUs you'll generally want 2133/2400 (or 3k if you're insane) for better performance. 1866 seems to be the middle ground of price/performance.

FOund some corsair vengeance 2133, that should be nuff' his budget is around 500, he wants to get it now, then later upgrade to a 760.

thing is APUs need really fast ram (not necessary with most gaming pcs).. 1866 is definitely the minimum you want with an APU because it will affect the FPS in game quite a bit...

 

A10-7700K is the fastest APU as far as GPU goes out there (A10 7850K also exists, but costs more and has the same GPU). Those two are the newest creme de la creme Kaveri APUs.

With the mobo, you can upgrade to a Kaveri APU later on (since it uses the FM2+ socket).

The ram is sold out and see if you can replace it with that speed but with CL10.

 

He would have to go above 2200MHZ for CL11 be faster then CL10 1866.

What kind of gaming will he be doing until he gets the 760? I mean if its minecraft you could make the best machine possible - graphics card.

It almost certainly will. My DDR2 800MHz CL4 1.5v is pretty good too.

hyper 212 works with and am/fm amd socket so yes, its a good cooler and worth the money.

better for what purpose? entry level gaming? the highest end is around 7750 levels so it depends what games he wants to play, minecraft-any, crysis 3-none, buy an apu thats a quad core then...[read end]

good boards- dont know about us but do some reading on what the various chipsets offer and pick one that fits your needs and the buy an asus/msi/gigabyte boards based on that and reviews.

what ram speed, the faster the ram the better BUT ram prices get excessive very quickly to the point your spending money on ram that you should e spending ona  graphics card...and if your plan is to buy a graphics card eventually, all that money you spend on super fast ram ends up making no difference so the best thing to do is.....[read end]

[end] get some 1600mhz ram or better still 1866 ram if the prices are close enough and save some money for a good card like a r9-270 down the line.

yes the later build is more expensive, and you could add the £140 270 to the first build and get the same game performance....but with only 4 threads your losing some ability of streaming say assigning 4 threads to a game, 2 to record with fraps and 2 to live streamand you'll lose encoding performance, this might be acceptable and it is for most but its food for thought. maybe im biased.

I'd try and get a new Kaveri APU, HSA, Mantle and all that (Richland/Trinity is VLI4 not GCN).

 

2133+ RAM is great

 

And pretty much any A88X board.
