Hey guys!

Im currently slowly searching for a new laptop to replace my Asus zenbook from 4 years back (with a GTX 950M). I'm doing a study in Game development (artistic side). And im looking for something that performs best with programs like 3Dsmax, zbrush, substance painter, Unreal engine etc etc. , I had a Dell G5 15 for a bit but it sucked with the firmware and updates not being compatible with some programs (making them crash and whatever) and Dell refusing to Update the issues...

Im not sure what matters most. CPU or GPU. Ironically i don't game much anymore so I don't care about massive frame rates. Battery life doesn't matter as power outlets are always available. Also with AMD CPU's becoming more interesting I wonder if I should wait. Price im not too sure about. Around 1500 euros (about 1700 dollars) would be fine if it buys me a laptop to keep me going for the next 4 years.

Anyone some ideas? Greetings from The Netherlands :)

Ofcourse the more portable the easiest. but the smaller and thinner, the more cramped and higher the thermals. So i dont really mind it being heavy and 17 inch. my current one is 17 inch and 3.4kg. so lets say 3,5 kilos is the limit.

The Netherlands, I can send you countless websites, but they are all in Dutch. https://tweakers.net/categorie/496/laptops/producten/ This website compares all stores. so if you can figure it out without an english translation. go at it haha.

I think the costum laptops are a bit too expensive for what you get. and I'm not sure if the build quality of the case is worth it.

the Lenovo is interesting.

Currently im deciding between these. I also changed my budged to 1800 since some more money became available.

HP Omen 15-dc1986nd ( for 1879,-  euro )
I7- 9th gen.

2070 (or 2060 for 1649,- euro)
16 GB ram
512GB SSD + 1TB HDD
144 hz IPS screen

Lenovo Legion Y740-15IRHg  ( for 1789,- euro )
i7 9th gen
2070
16 GB ram
256 SSD (in my opinion a bit too little) + 1TB HDD
144 hz IPS screen

Lenovo Legion Y540-17IRH 81Q4001CMH ( for 1520,- euro )
I7 9th gen.
2060

16 GB ram
1TB SSD
144 hz IPS Screen

HP Omen 15-dc1621nd ( for 1500,- euro )
I7 9th gen
2060
16 GB ram
512 SSD + 1TB HDD

60hz IPS screen

Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH - 81SX007YMH ( for 1400,- euro )
I7 9th gen
2060
16 GB ram
1 TB SSD
60hz IPS screen

Im not sure which one of these is most reliable, has best thermals and which is worth the price.
Id rather have 32 gigs of ram so if i go for one thats on the cheaper end I can spend the rest of my budget on upgrading the ram.

oke so i decided not to go for the Y740 since the price difference with the Y540 was too high imo.

I want to go for either the Y540 15 inch or the 17 inch. Both same specs. difference is. the 17 inch has 144 hz while the 15 inch has 60.

My question is. does the 17 inch have better thermals.

I will use the money i have left to upgrade the ram from 16 gigs to 32 since for unreal u cant have enough.

Bigger chassis = slightly more cooling room. Also 144Hz
