Just like everybody else... it is time to upgrade the old system...

chromed1

MB: GIGABYTE X99-UD5 WIFI 4WAY CROSSFIREX 4WAY SLI USB 3
CPU: INTEL CORE I7-5930K (custom Liquid cooled) over clock about 20%
RAM: 4 x CORSAIR VENGEANCE 16GB DDR4 2400 MHZ QUAD CHANNEL
GPU: MSI NVIDIA GTX980 4GB GDDR5 PCI-E  (stock air cooled)

Advice on where to start?

My first impression is GPU... Thinking GTX 2080 not sure on brand...but i am pretty sure i want it to be waterblocked...

That will likely leave me bottleneccked until i can up the CPU...

I should mention that the need to upgrade started when i received a new monitor for my birthday...

LG 34" Ultra wide curved - at 3440x1440 my framerates fell like a rock compared to 1080p.

I am not an expert and welcome advise.

Thanks,

Chromed1

if you want to waterblock, founders still is your best friend

Alternatively try find a used 1080ti with a waterblock already attached. Its what i did, far better deal imo.

Not necessarily. What's your performance target?

A friend of mine with a 5960X was managing 144fps in his chosen titles so it should be good to go

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Oh yes the i7 5960X is basically a R7 1800X but with Ring Bus so better gaming, no particularly need to upgrade it.

A RTX 2080 will be a gigantic step up from the old GTX 980.

A 1080Ti or a 2080 is a nice match for the 5930K.  I'm running the 5930K @ 4.2GHz / 1080Ti combo myself and I feel no need to upgrade anything anytime soon.

Thanks all!

Does anyone know of a place that sells 1080TI Founders or rtx 2080 founders pre-waterblocked... and not a closed loop?
