I want my isp credentials from my router cuz I want to change my router myself without having to have them come and do it. Sadly they don't give away they're credentials and they change the password if ur router as they set it up. I know that tenda routers (tenda ac10) can auto set up and take isp info from ur old router by connecting it's lan port to wan port of the old router. Is there anyway I can do something similar using a pc. Like using wireshark for example. Also my router is an old Linksys wrtu54g-tm. So if u know any router specific tricks please help. I need either the new router password or the isp credentials (which i don't know what type they use cuz it's a direct lan connection to the isp network. I.e. no modem.) Please help and thanks

what isp do you have?

What type of connection(docsis, gpon, dsl)? Is there some sort of authentication like 802.1x?

Normally your modem gives one public ipv4 to your router, then you have full control of your router and the isp doesn't change anything on there.

Normally its pretty  easy to reset a router password, did you try tat.

In some country's ISPs lock that thing down completely and you wont be able to get the info needed to run your own.
Altho you have put some information down, we would need more.
We need the exact models of current and replacement router. Now i do not know whats what from your story.
Also the exact type of internet connection.
The ISP name itself. (for people with experience). And also country for same reason.

And also what have you already tried doing yourself? Becuase theres nothing more infuriating when trying to help to read after; "Yeah ive done that already".
If you dont know any of these questions, ask someone, call the ISP. And then ofcourse put that down in the text as well.
The more info you give the easier it is for people to help.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!
I'm just helping YOU to help YOURSELF!
(The more info you give the easier it is for others to help you out!)

Not willing to capitulate to the ignorance of the masses!

Thing is i don't have a modem. I have a Ethernet cable coming in to my apartment from the isps main network. And resetting the router would mean I lose its configuration so it's pointless. I'm not even sure if my router uses pppoe or is given a astatic IP or pptp.

My isp is very tiny and so I doubt anybody here would know of it buts it's awde net. And I'm in Lebanon.

I've tried: routersploit, using and Ethernet tap to try to read the data coming through the isp Ethernet cable(not certain I did it correctly), wireshark directly to the wan port of my router, try my luck by simply replacing the router with another.

Id go find out how it gets its ip. Look in router settings

Does the router have a public ip? or are they running cgnat?

Does a system work if you plug a laptop/desktop into it?
