PC Freezes with buzzing sound while gaming

keny2323

The start of the whole issue is just so weird, I had a stable OC running on my vega 56 for like 2 weeks and when I decided to install 3 case fans, my system literally started dying. Initially, I got a freezing with a buzzing noise and shortly after the freeze a nice little: "THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER" BSOD. Okay then, I reinstalled windows (completely wiped the hard drive) and after that I only got freezing and no BSOD. I tried unplugging the case fans, removing the OC, reseating the card, changing the pcie cables, reinstalling drivers, reverting driver versions, all with no success. The entire PC is brand new, 2 weeks old, no used parts.

Specs:

b450m pro-m2

msi vega 56 airboost

ryzen 5 2600

corsair vengeance dual channel 16gb 3000mhz

corsair tx650m 80+ gold psu

(650w should be plenty for this system, it's what AMD recommends for vega 56.)

Before installing the case fans I never had a crash, but now even without the case fans I get frequent crashes under load.

Please someone help me.

I don't see how the fans would cause the BSOD or freezing. Any other hardware/software changes lately? Maybe try updating MB drivers.

I know right, it shouldn't. But that's literally the only thing that was changed recently. No software/hardware has changed except the case fans.

I'll give that a try.

Solution: Don't daisy chain pcie cables especially with vega. Using 2 separate pcie 8 pins fixed the issue.

EDIT: Nevermind, it worked for a day but i still get freezes.

Whenever there is a random-seeming issue, I tend to suspect the Random Access Memory. Normally I would suggest using the computer with only a single stick of RAM and seeing if the problem continues. I am aware that there is no way to accurately repeat the error in your case, perhaps a Prime95 memory stress test overnight would do. In a case like that, you would test each stick of RAM individually.

However, you stated you bought new RAM, and while DOA is possible, I tend to trust Corsair. So in this case, I would ask what BIOS version is running on your B450m. I notice on the MSI support page here (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450M-PRO-M2) that once the Ryzen CPUs came out, there were a few memory compatibilty fix revisions. Perhaps try a different revision, though please note that flashing a BIOS should only be done once you are well prepared and informed, as a bad flash can brick a board in extreme cases.

Hello CharlesM2020

Already answered on a similar post but for future use, i'll just post it here again :

Thanks for the good advice, yes I have more than one stick, I have a x4 kit for a total of 16Gs (i know, i know, not the best solution, but I had to do with what was available back in 2015 when I knew nothing)

I'll try overnight to do the Prime95 memory stress test and i'll get back to you for more info.

Thanks again !

Hello again !

So, played for 6hours yesterday, did the stress test afterwards, 8hours during the night, and nothing.

It's just so random... I hadn't the problem for months, and this one time it came back, maybe it will not show up until another month or so. It's a real mistery.

Let me know if you have any other idea.

Thanks !

Hello,

Sorry bothering you again with this, but it went calm until now.

Just did it again, that d*mn crash.

There is no typical behavior for this. It's so random.

If anyone has any idea...

Thanks.
