A 1TB drive partitioned into 2 500GB partitions would reduce disk usage in W10? When windows is updating on a single drive (spinning rust not SSD) I've noticed near on 100% disk usage on loads of different budget PC's I've built. I've also noticed a few OEM systems, Dell, Packard Bell etc, partition the single disk into to equal partitions.

Just a thought.

That's simply because spinning rust is slow, has nothing to do with partitions.

That's mostly because the OEM recovery-tools generally wipe the OS-partition but leave the other one intact, so any files made by the user there won't get destroyed.

The same physical drive is getting the load and you're still bottlenecked by the limitations of that physical drive. Partitions are just logical/virtual elements on top of that physical drive and do not affect IO performance/capabilities. More partitions won't make your HDD faster.
