Best NAS Software for a Server?

Required

H
I still never used and installed a NAS Software on a Server.

There are some Projects who I still know like:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nextcloud

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenMediaVault

I run my own ESXi Server with a Handfull W7 Pc who run some Service like TV Recording. I have some TB "Internal" Storage via Raid and "original" Used HP Drives but I need some affordable storage lets say for TV Recording. Now I have 2x 2 TB SSD in use because I record more than I watch. Normally I run some Doc when have spare Time but with my crap old Setup I cant run it now... but that will change. And my Parents also need Storage for Pictures and so on.

I have some "Basic" thinks who must support:
a) Shutdown when my Eaton UPS get emty sure the is connect via LAN

b) Run maybe on a ESXi to run some small Virtual Win7 next to.

c) Cache Files on the Ram. I could install 32GB into the HP Home Server thats a ton for caching!
d) Make an Backup of the Data on an external Drive who could be access by any (Win) so I could restore the Data

e) Full Separated Accounts for my Parents

f) maybe a client to receive Logfiles from the different Network Device like Router, UPS, Switch, AP System,... collect them and make maybe a report out of it.

g) It would be that nice if the Software also could transfer Data from fast SSD to slower HDD when the Data are not get used but there must something to prevent the moving when the Anti Virus run a check over all Files.

Can someone recommend it?

From AT. :x

I use Openmediavault running on Debian on my Orange Pi and it works well for simple stuff but for your needs I suggest UnRaid or FreeNAS

Freenas should be good, but its very tricky to deploy.

I would just install centos and nextcloud.

I recommend to check Synology baremetal edition called XPEnology. It can be installed on baremetal or in virtual machine.
