Cheap air cooler.

Looking for a cheap air cooler to cool my R5 2600X. I have a budget of around £30. I was looking at the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition, as it seems to have good performance and looks good. The Cryorig H7 also looks like a good option.

 

Does anyone have experience with either of these, or other recommendations? I want to reduce temps/noise from the stock cooler and maybe do a little overclocking.

i had a hyper 212 a long while back in an old ivy bridge build. performs very well, good value cooler.

the core tower design have been reused alot in the 212 series, you could easily find alternative replacement in future

The Hyper 212 does not have AM4 socket support. An upgrade kit CAN be purchase, but I don't know the price of it.

The newer black edition does support AM4 though.

Didn't know, but now I do. It's just when people only say 'Hyper 212' it could literally be 4 different coolers.

Either would be fine. I'd go with whichever is cheaper or looks better.

Would you even consider this worthy considering the Wraith Spire is fairly silent even at high rpm?

 

I understand that cooling wise something like the H7/212BE are likely to outperform it but if you're not really gaining any improvement "sound wise" and boost clocks might like be just 50 to 100mhz higher one can only wonder if this is necessary at all given how OP seems to be on tight budget.

 

I'm not entirely sure how the Spire stacks up against those.

There isn't more or less silent. Something is silent or it isn't and the Spire is far from silent. How much more pleasant a quieter cooler may be depends on your hearing. 

The Hyper 212 Evo is already quieter than the Spire and the Hyper 212 BE and H7 are even better. The extra thermal headroom allows for lower fan speeds and lower noise.

Mayhaps I just got too impressed with it when facing Intel's solution that I tend to overestimate it's 'low noise'...

 

Here on the office we have a couple of i5 7400 computers on stock Intel which are extremely loud and recently I built by my boss request two new computers but I decide to use the R5 2400G instead, in comparison they are virtually silent what amazed me.
