So I have a problem, my desktop PC released some smoke, smelling of burnt electronics, and shut off.

I pretty much thought it was dead, but, it will actually boot up into windows, for a few seconds, before I smell heat again and it dies.

I've opened up the case and I can't find anything visably wrong.  No obvious shorts or burn marks.

My first thought was the CPU heatsink fan maybe shorted out, but it looks fine.  Not sure what else to check?

Any advice appreciated.

PSU probably got destroyed. Dont turn on the PC the PSU could take other parts with it when it dies. What PSU do you have. Cheap ones often fail.
