So my school recently added AP Computer Science as a course that I can take. It seems like just another programming course. I was wondering if anyone here has taken it and could maybe tell me about it since AP courses are supposed to be standard. Is it a difficult course? I already know a little bit of Java. Just the basics statements along with some other concepts. I've also found out that one of the better teachers at my school is teaching it so assume that the teacher is good. Would you recommend taking it?

AP (Advanced placement) Will be harder than a normal class (Obviously) It really depends on location and your state and school districts regulations and education guidelines

Hope I could help!

Even though I have not taken it, I would recommend an Ap class as even though it is hard it will be worth it if you can take the extra work and stress of an AP class especially if you are going to major in something that requires this it will benefit you greatly.

It's alright. I'm ok with taking AP courses. Currently averaging an B+ in AP Bio. Working my way up to an A. I think I can handle AP Comp Sci if difficulty is the only reason not to take it.  :)

Ironically enough I just dropped that class today. For me the class was all Java and fairly easy, I'd definitely recommend it if you're into programming. The main reason I dropped it because I had it as an independent study, so I didn't get any help and I had zero motivation to do it (The motivation part was the biggest reason...)

I  took it at my high school, It was only Java for us and its like you just have to write code that solves the problem they give you.

in our school we have to take JAVA before we can take AP comp sci. I took java at my school and hated it, the curriculum and method of teaching was terrible.

Yes. Worth skipping CS I in college if possible (unless you want an easier first semester). At least you'll be prepared for the test. I took it, along with 5 others, and had no idea it was going to be in Java. Also had no AP classes. Just signed up for the test. That was fortunately the only one I didn't pass (I had only learned C++, and panicked when I didn't recognize syntax. It would have been fairly simple otherwise. APs are well worth it. Enjoying 4 second-year courses because of them. (2nd semester)

I wouldn't do AP comp sci if it's pure coding.  If they offered broader depth of studies like A+ and base level networking and that kind of thing I'd say heck yeah.
