On-board vs Sound Card

Hi!

I've got ALC1220 chip on-board. I'm thinking about getting Razer Soundbar and Kraken 7.1 V2. Should I get external sound card for these two products? And no, I'm not an audiophile, I'll just spend more if I can get better sound :)

Primary will be used for gaming and music.

Thanks!

if you wanna spend more for better sound dont get razer products.  As for the sound card, the on-board stuff is really good now days you should be fine with it.

Razer, durability hell and short warranty

As for sound card, I doubt you'll hear any difference. If you think you're already spending enough to buy one, you should. Of course you could try the on board audio first and get a feel of it

Sound cards are mostly obsolete these days. Today's onboard audio is perfectly fine unless you're really dying to waste some mone- *ahem* I mean unless you really need an extra feature your motherboard doesn't have.

For those bad sounding headphones even an Realtek AC 97 would be plenty.

Once you decide on getting something that sounds decent (can be cheap or expensive), the Realtek 1220 might be unworthy.

Well, I can't and won't recommend Razer products, be it mice, headphones or anything other. Price extreme, quality bad, sound quality extremely bad. Enjoy your Razer ecosystem.

well if you prioritize brand loyalty and RGB over quality then unfortunately sound wise razer offers nothing good if you want to get something actually half decent look elsewhere.i get what your going for but for but unfortuantely razer doesn't really offer anyhting good aside from their decent mice that break in a year and their laptops.

Well, I watched some videos about their quality yesterday and it was average, like other brands. For example:

But other gaming  brands do things better than Razer Logitech make better mice, Corsair make better keyboards, Quanba make better fight sticks and almost everyone else make better headsets cause Razer doesn't know how to tune a headphone for gaming.  If you want an actual quality headset you would be looking at something like getting a separate mic and headphone. Or a Sennheiser headset like the pc37x. Sure Razer is average but for the price that they charge on their products they should be above average or the best. They have the money to develop the best products but don't. Dave 2d even said it himself your paying for brand and marketing you know who also does that? Apple you are basically buying into the apple of PC gaming with the ecosystem stuff. Going a single brand is a waste of quality you can have for the money.

PC 37x is the best for it's price range the gpro is alright not a big fan of the narrow sound stage but the mic is pretty good

These days most motherboards have a decent onboard sound solution. If you move up to mid or high end board then the quality of onboard sound goes up to the point a dedicated card would produce similar results.

Now if you decide to move to studio grade equipment which is much more expensive then sure... you will see gains, but most sounds cards that people would use aren't really any higher quality than what you see on decent motherboards these days.

yep the pc 37x will be a nice step up. I will say it's an open back so make sure you want an open back before buying. if you want a nice closed back look into the cooler master mh 751

Image result for hd 58x

this is an example of an open back

as you can see with the open back their is a grill on othe sidesor "back" of the heaqdphone the main qualities in sound with them is they tend to sound more open , giving you a wider soundstage which is really good for gaming. open backs tend to sound less bassy but more natural.  but open backs tend to leak sound in and out so if you are in a noisy room I would not recommend getting these. but they are better for gaming and in my opinion most music. reason why I personally use them. if you live in a noisy environment then you would want a closed back .

I'm part of the camp that thinks that 7.1 is mostly a gimmick but if you really want it use HeSuvi , Razer surround , or Dolby Atmos for headphones.
