Can I run my PSU at 88% load ??

Shivank
Go to solution Solved by tarfeef101,

As long as it is a "Good" PSU, and not some cheapo no-name brand explode-o-box, yeah, it should be fine for much longer than a couple months.

Good PSUs from good companies say they can do 550W because they are rated to do 550W. Continuously, for the lifespan of the unit.

I am just building a PC and got little stuck initially I planned to buy Vega 56 but it got out of stock and I went with Vega 64 but now I am stuck because I have a 550w psu and when I calculated I found that I am putting that psu on almost 88% work load so I just wanted to ask that can I run it safely for 2-3 months till than I'll have sufficient money to buy a 650 w PSU ?? Help me out guys ? Please

You can run it 100% load .

infact many PSu can actualy function over 100% .. wouldnt recommend it , but its possible.

Nothing wrong with 88% load. its designed to handle it.

For that length of time it will have almost no effect.

Just make sure it isn't getting stupid hot and you will be fine.

BTW - this is exactly why I always overspec my PSUs.

It entirely depends on the model of your PSU.

Ryzen 5 2600 | Asus ROG Strix GTX 1660 Ti | Asus ROG Strix B450-E | Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8) RAM 3200MHZ 16CL | Cooler Master Mastercase H500 | TX650M GOLD | 2TB WD BLUE 5400 RPM | 500GB SATA SSD | Asus MG248QE Monitor| ---------- | Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum Mouse | SkullCandy Crusher Wireless Headphones | Trash $6 membrane keyboard from a brand which I can't read the name of because it's literally so cheap that the company's logo hasn't been printed right and the letters are unclear and now that we're at it it's so loud and hurts my fingertips I honestly regret buying it I wish I'd bought normal ram sticks instead of corsair's overpriced rgb ones and with the money I saved buy a better keyboard instead

Are you sure you're running it at 88% load most of the time?

Also, what PSU you have really helps in determining what it is.

Thanks ?

You don't have to make multiple posts to thank people, with little bit of editing you can tag multiple people in 1 post.

Also, that PSU is not good, depending on how old it is it can vary from time bomb to "good enough for office PC"
