Hi!

I've been looking(not very actively) for a new case for a few months now.
But I never seem to find anything that meets all my criteria, and if I find something that looks like it might do, there is always some kind of missing information that makes me too nervous to gamble on it.

So, here I am! Begging for the help of the LTT community.

Right now I have the Fractal Design Arc XL, my biggest problem with this case is noise level! It's just too d*** loud!

My current system (for space requirements) is:
- Asus x99-Deluxe II (ATX)

- EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black  About 325mm long (12.81 freedom inches)

- NZXT Kraken X61 AIO-cooler 280mm radiator
- 2x 2,5" SSDs
- 7x 3,5" HDDs
- Crosair RM1000X psu

So the task is to cram that system into a quiet case!
In short summary;
- ATX (or E-ATX
- Support for at least 2x2,5" SSDs and 8x 3,5" drive cages, while still having room for my GPU

- Support for at least 280mm radiator(or 360mm if I decide to go Ryzen 3000)
- Quiet
- Preferably No RGB

All help would be highly appreciated!
And hopefully I can find your suggestions here in Norway, or with international shipping elsewhere!

I'd suggest you have a look at bequiet!, as the name suggests they specialise in silence.

Maybe a dark base 600? (also if your current case is very loud, maybe try some different fans.

If you're formally an engineer, avoid responsibility. That's what senior engineers get paid for.

Thanks for the reply!
I've looked at be quiet! a lot actually. Unfortunately I have yet to find a be quiet case that supports my GPU with drive cages. The Silent Base 600 for example only supports 294 mm GPUs with drive cages, 413mm without drive cages.

I've recently swapped in a few Noctua fans, but the noise is still too much for me. Quite abit of noise from HDDs aswell.
It's a pretty "open" case with mesh in front and top, with no insulation on the other panels.

I've gtg but I think you can remove some of the cages but leave the rest. Other options are fractal design or corsair i think

Well!
Seems like the internet might have lied for the first time ever.
Checking EVGAs website, the dimensions of the SC Black is a bit shorter than my first google search showed.
The real length seem to be 10.6in - 269.2mm! That makes my life a whole bunch easier!

I was going to say, your SC spec is WAY off. The only cards I know of that are 325mm long are Zotac Amp! Extreme and MSI Lightning. My FTW3 is only 298-300mm long, which is bigger than your SC.

If you liked fractals build quality but hated the noise, You could look into their Define Series which focuses more on silence than the Arc series did. The Define R6 for example

 fractal define r6 noise

In stock configuration with fans at max speed, the R6 reached 33.8 dBA. All the baffles and padding really do something, and Fractal’s marketing delivers: with the top cover opened, noise levels increased (measurably, but not audibly) to 34.9 dBA, and with the front panel removed completely, it jumped to 39.7 dBA. 33.8 dBA is almost exactly the same as the Pure Base 600, and the only case that’s quieter at max RPM is the Thermaltake Core P3, because it has no fans.

Thanks a lot, man! Gamers Nexus' page really helped, with the temp and noise benchmarks!

Think I'll either go for Define R6 or Silent Base 601.
The Define R6 is around 150usd here in Norway, SB601 around 120usd, so really not bad!

Anyone with first hand experience with either(or both) of those cases with any input?

I've had experience with the little brother of the R6, the Define C. The build was for a friend so I dont have long term noise to report, but thermals according to the friend I helped build it with said they're great (mostly under 75ºC)

I’ve just completed my new build in the R6.

It’s easy to work in and has enough space for cables and long graphic cards. The noise lvl depends on your cooling solution and if you use headphones or speakers.

In idle and office applications the pc is super quiet, in stressful games it gets noisy but not uncomfortable. With headphones I don’t notice any noise.

But like I said it depends on your cooking and fan settings. My 2080ti ramps up to 60% fan speed under load and is the main source of noise.

Thanks for all your input!
I've ordered the R6, so I expect it to arrive tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.
I went for the R6 since it is the more clean-looking case of the two.
My biggest concern is hard drive noise. Hopefully it doesn't bother me too much.
If and when I game I usually use headphones.
So the noise a idle/office-like task is the most important to me!
