Hello,

i’m new to pc building and I’ve been having this issue for the last week now where my motherboard won’t start up. The POST led for dram is lit up solid and it flashes back to cpu for less than a second. I have replaced the cpu, the motherboard and the ram with one that is on gigabytes compatibility list and it’s still having the same issue. Does anyone have any insight to this?

parts list:

gigabyte x470 Aorus gaming plus mobo

amd Ryzen 5 3600 cpu

hyperx 16gb 2666

nvidia rtx 2060 super founders edition

sabrent m.2 256gb storage

2tb firecuda hdd

I’m sorry if this has already been asked, new to the forum?

Have you updated the bios for support with the 3000 chips?

I can’t even get into the BIOS to do that and I don’t know if I can flash the bios without the actual screen coming up

Well you'll need to do that first.

I don't think you have a bios flash button on that board, so you'll either have to: Buy a Ryzen 1xxx or 2xxx chip and update it, order a boot kit from AMD or go to a computer shop and have them update it for you

So even though the dram led is lit up, it’s probably the cpu after all?

Will the Ryzen 3 1200 work in this motherboard?

Yes, X470 motherboards natively support Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series CPUs.

I don't know why you want to BUY a Ryzen 1200 just to update the BIOS...

... when AMD is sending and shipping the 'Boot Kit' for free...

So I got the new cpu and i’m currently updating the bios. I notice that gigabyte recommends installing EC FW update tool but I cannot find a download link anywhere. Is this a real thing? And would it install with the bios or in the operating system?

Tomorrow i am going to get my new R5 3600 but my BIOS is the F31 (Gigabyte Aorues X470 Gaming Ultra)  and it says in the gigabyte website to use that EC FW update tool before updating to F40...

I went looking for that update tool but found out in other forums that it is causing problems to a lot of people. So i am kind of afraid to use that tool, maybe i should just update the BIOS to F40 without using the tool... This tool is located in the utility tab below the Bios tab in bigabyte website. I used the EC FW tool, then i updated the BIOS to F41. I installed my R5 3600 today and it is working fine. The only problem that i have and that i had before is the XMP profile for 3200 MHz still does not work, and my pc refuses to boot with that speed. I thought that by upgrading from the R5 1600 to the R5 3600 my RAM would finally be able to run at 3200 MHz but unfortunately it is not...
