What to do with 12/16 cores

With how AMD give cores now 12 and upcoming 16 cores consumer processor can i do virtualize like linus 2 gamer 1 pc for ryzen with nas and other process on ryzen processor by using like unraid,etc it is weird to see so less virtualization video on ryzen than intel even then formal offer more cores.

Anyway games do not use more than 6 cores efficiency and not everyone render video alltime so maybe we can use other cores like seperate machine with features like nas(for backup),(maybe pfsense),etc.

I mean you could always have existing program running in background while you game. You could maybe consider hosting server when playing with friends.

 

 

I rather have separated system for my networking (router) and NAS as these device never turn off compare to desktop which does every-time or not in use.

If you don't need 12 cores just buy the 8 or 6 core options...

Also did you know you can play 2 games at the same time on Windows without virtualization?

For gaming only, the Ryzen 7 3700X or 3800X split in half makes a decent rig for a dual gamer PC.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I could have used them for 3D rendering.

 

I did 99% CPU rendering in my business. It is more accurate than GPU. I used 1 core, 2 core and 4 core and 6 core CPU from 1993 to half way through 2018. To speed up the rendering I would use multiple computers. In the 90s I used up to 4 networked together. It was called a rendering farm. By the time 4 core i7s came along I was down to 2 computers. 

 

With a 16 core I would dedicate 12 cores to 3D rendering and 4 for OS and Photoshop. The reason for this is that if all cores are assigned to rendering the computer is not useable for anything else and even accessing its hard drives over a network is almost impossible to do.

 

It is also the reason I did lots of console gaming. With all my computers rendering at night I could not play games on them. 

 

Cost was a big factor. I did try a 6 core i7 6850k setup that an IT company allowed me to use for a few weeks. I loved the rendering speed but it cost twice as much as my consumer i7s (i7 2600k and i7 4770k) to build and it did not render twice as fast. Basically 6 core rendering only became affordable to me with the i7 8700k and if I had not retired I would be looking at the new Ryzens to replace them.
