The Mac mini should be faster given that the Mac mini has a desktop class CPU and is not as limited by thermals. The Mac mini is also significantly cheaper and if you can get away with just using a desktop, I would defiantly do it. You can almost pay for the whole thing be reselling your current MBP. (especially if you can get the keyboard replaced and the display. That way you can say it's refurbished).

That's a pretty big price difference.

What are you planning on doing with it? Do you need the portability of a MacBook?

I'm assuming you want MacOS and not Windows. There is always the option of Hackintosh, especially with desktop PCs. (Could try finding a compact PC that works with it. Likely could get better performance and cooling for cheaper. Some laptops also work with it.)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Depends on your needs.

The MacBook is more portable and can run off of battery power. The Mini can provide more CPU performance but is chained to a power outlet. The MacBook also has a respectable GPU where as the Mac Mini does not.

okay, about the price. I am currently using a 2018 non touchbar macbook pro duocore. It is too slow for me. So I am planning to do either one of these :

  1. Sell the 13 inch macbook pro non touchbar Then get the 15 inch and get the refurbished core i9 : (https://www.apple.com/sg/shop/product/G0V0LZP/A/Refurbished-154-inch-MacBook-Pro-29GHz-6-core-Intel-Core-i9-with-Retina-display-Space-Gray?fnode=b6b4891da0f6fae530a89753a66d7989e40f972786bfee5418f5a0e61752167e9da8ad5f11fcf465c4156c572dd60beefff5c8ead6e01ff0b8bb36432a1e39d372e2a21a958e2401f65c45ff77b6e7d1)
  2. Keep the 13 inch, and get a mac mini.

If I am going with the core i9 15 inch then my set up will be thunderbolt dock + HDD + monitor + 15 inch

If am going with the mac mini route. my setup will be mac mini normal external HDD

Does this make sense to you?

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
