Ok so these are the servers I build on a monthly basis for data centers (California, New York and United Kingdom).

 

CPU - Intel Xeon E5-2687W @ 8 -cores @ 3.1GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 20MB L3 Cache - $1,885.99

Heatsink - Dynatron R5 - $34.99

Motherboard -SuperMicro X9SRE-3F - $349.99
RAM - Kingston 16GB DDR3 1600 (PC3-12800) ECC x 8 - $1.623.92

Storage - Samsung 840 PRO 256GB SSD x 8 - $1,823.60

Case - SuperMicro 825TQ-R700LPV w/ 700W hotswap redundant supplies. - $350.00
NIC - Intel X540-T2 10Gbps - $499.99
Raid - Adaptec 2274200-R 7805 - $568.99

Flash Module - Adaptec 2275400-R AFM-700 - $174.99
Raid Cables - $30.00

what are you using the server for?

CPU: i5 4670k i won the silicon lottery Cooler: Corsair H100i w/ 2x Corsair SP120 quiet editions Mobo: ASUS Z97 SABERTOOTH MARK 1 Ram: Corsair Platnums 16gb (4x4gb) Storage: Samsun 840 evo 256gb and random hard drives GPU: EVGA acx 2.0 gtx 980 PSU: Corsair RM 850w Case: Fractal Arc Midi R2 windowed

what are you using the server for? 

They host HyperV clients for multiple things.

Host a metric ton of HyperV clients. Why else would it require 128 GB of RAM?

How many do you run? Can't be many with your specs. Hyper-V requires minimum of 512 MB of RAM per client. Recommended 1-2 GB. And that's without getting into vCore to real core/thread ratios. Also it is not generally recommended to use a K series CPU for Hyper-V as they don't have VT-d, vPro support etc which Hyper-V benefits from. So I'm not sure if you are bluffing, embellishing or just flat out bsing

Sweet gig man! Keep up the good work! Do you run a business that does this kind of custom servers? If so, any tips on a newbie looking to get into that kind of work?

It's only one of the many hats I wear at work. As far as getting into it, I kinda just fell into the position to be honest. You have to be very familiar with Hyper-V, Server 2008, 2012 etc.
