Buy Ryzen 7 3700X or i9-9900X

Recently read that "$329 AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Beats $999 Intel Core i9-9900X"

 

I was planning my build on a i9 9900k. Should i go for the amd instead?

 

Will be using pc for 50%gaming + 50% rendering and 3D modelling

Yes is the answer. It will come close to the 9900k even if it doesn't beat it. And let's be honest, it doesn't have to beat it. The price is THAT good. We don't need benchmarks to figure out that this is basically a 9900k with better power consumption and very similar performance. I mean...the 3600 6 core is matching a 2700x in multi-core workloads, that's crazy.

Definitely the upcoming Zen 2 Ryzen 7 3700X ~ Ryzen 7 3800X ~ Ryzen 7 3900X then, they will offer you significantly better value for performance, delivering the performance you need.

 

Forget the i9 9900K, the only case it will still be a viable alternative is where it can truly make use if QuickSync iGPU Hardware Acceleration like in Premiere Pro, if not, it's an "obsolete" CPU when the Ryzen 7 3900X can be purchased instead.

Unless Intel cut their CPU prices to match AMD price/performance or Ryzen 3700X 3rd party benchmarks are not that great, it's pointless to buy the 9900K. I'm apprehending mixed review because the CPUs will be new and there may be some instability, but it should not be that bad compared to X370.

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...
