They're unlimited in the facet that you're not charged for overages as you would be with a "limited" data plan.

20% of America live in Rural areas where you Choices are 3 Mbps DSL, satellite Internet and LTE. For many its not a choice in the matter.

20% of the US cant get FIber, thats what your not understanding. The Cable Co wont deploy in Rural areas either, not enough population density. So if your choices are Satellite (Data caps + high latency), 3 Mbps DSL (May or may not work and is slow as fuck), or 4G LTE, which do you choose?

Kinda a dick statement there. And for the record I have Comcast 150/10 service, though I do have a 1 TB cap. Im just stating info from what I have read. If you live out in the sticks you get shit for service. Not every one is an entitled ( Insert word here)  person like you and gets Fiber. Fiber is even rare in many cities as well. Unless you live in big cities like Detroit.

Also on my T Mobile phone I get about 25/10. Which for most people would be acceptable if that was the best option.

Wiring up Rural areas is not profitable. Private business exist to make profit. In many states the local government cant wire themselves up due to state law. Plus using tax dollars for this purpose makes some people cry. Like Republicans, rich people, etc. Because they dont think they should have to pay for every one to have access. Just like how the residence of my city bitch about no city services but also bitch when the city tries to raise taxes to provide services, because who gives a fuck about having a fire department or police officers.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Bear in mind that while fiber is great and all, it's still converted to coax once it hits the home. So yeah they're backbone might be fiber but homes today are not wired for fiber, they're all coax. One of my local ISPs likes to talk about their fiber network, but fail to mention that it's still coax at the end of the day. Not saying fiber isn't great, it certainly is, but I don't think some people realize what it means to have fiber to your home. There's still a conversion that happens. Even Comcast, which is mostly copper, has a few areas where fiber is their backbone.

Exactly right.

Tell me if this is correct: The fiber is beneficial for eliminating congestion over large areas. While homes might use coax the fiber can still better feed a large area as all bandwidth for all homes connected is shared through it.

in theory, it should make internet service  more reliable. Even with the conversion to coax. No?

Not entirely true. Verizon will convert to Coax OR Ethernet. Anything at or above 100 Mbps is done via Ethernet. Comcast Gigabit pro's media converter does 1 Gbps Ethernet or 10 Gbps SFP. So it depends on ISP.

Most ISP's offer Fiber to the Node. Such at AT&T's Uverse service or Comcast/Cox/WOW/ Charter service.

Fiber is great over coax because there's virtually no signal loss because it uses light. But in my experience, take it for what it's worth, is that even in large areas that are serviced by coax versus fiber, there really wasn't much of a tangible difference in terms of reliability. We have two such areas where I used to work. As long as the coax is in good condition and your cable math is done correctly, both seemed the same in terms of reliability.

Oh yeah, forgot about Ethernet. Good call.
