Would an FX8320 bottleneck 2 280Xs in SLI?

yes. there is always bottleneck, just how much depends. (remember linus?)

but anyway, this setup is just fine.

It would be stretching it.

Overclock it a bit and you'll be fine.

Yeah it's clocked at 4GHz, would that do?

I hope this is not against the CoC but watch this video

It enlightened me a lot about bottlenecking.

Your bottlenecked,..... ALWAYS by your slowest component.

And everyone else to a degree, sometimes to a point of connecting outside your machine and to the real world. (Meaning you can have the BEST PC in the world, but your limited by the machines connected to/from you)

The CPU against those 280s, probably not, although 2x 780 ti's ARE necked by decent CPU's. So maybe...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It shouldn't be against the Coc. You are generally providing a useful Youtube video to the OP

most of the times no... OC it a bit and you will be set. However, I don't recommend it if you play a lot of Skyrim as it's pretty much the most CPU bound game currently out there. Anyway, you will not see less than 60 FPS when the CPU is the bottleneck.

Depends on the game. ARMA II for example, only uses 2 cores. If the 8320 is left at stock, those 2 cores will only be operating at 3.5GHz (piledriver) which would bottleneck the 280Xs for sure. Depending on the games you want to play, I would recommend having multiple bios profiles. In one of the profiles: all 8 cores enabled at 4GHz with all power savings disabled. The other profile: 4 cores enabled at 4.5GHz with all power savings disabled.

I'm pretty sure you can crossfire a 280x with a 7970.... do this and upgrade to fx 8350 to get a bit more OC potential.

Exactly. Even with a 4930K@5GHz :P

It really depends on the game. Before you add a 2nd card just monitor your GPU loads, it would be literally pointless if it never passes 50%
