Asus FX502VM-AS73 Laptop Stuck on Black Screen

So, my brother's Asus FX502VM-AS73 laptop suddenly stopped working today. When his wife turned it on to use it, it was in the BIOS. She tried to get out of the BIOS, but it froze and turned off. When he turns it on the screen is black, but the fans are still running. He tried taking out the battery, CMOS battery, and pressing the power button, but that isn't working. I should mention that he thinks he's out of luck when it comes to the warranty. I haven't been able to confirm if that is true. That's just what he said. Does anyone have a possible solution or what could be causing the problem?

my first instinct based on the information you provided would be to disconnect the storage drives and see if the screen turns on back to the bios.
