this was my plan really, but just wanted to know if my headphones has ability to be improved by an external DAC, or i would my DAC be good enough such that a new DAC wouldnt help in anyway unless i get better headphones

Do t expect too much for upgrading your dac the difference s are present and definitely there but it's not life changing or anything it's subtle. Especially with modern motherboard design. If you want to get straight up better sound from your music the biggest upgrade you can have is the headphones the you can start thinking about things like dacs and amps

So basic question, just wanted to know if i will benefit from getting songs in FLAC, and if any ways to get best quality from what i have,

like using a better player, getting an inespensive DAC

wouldnt mind buying an external DAC if my headphones can benefit from a quality boost

my DAC in computer seems sketch, cause cant find much information on it, but does sound well, much better than any i have used before (mostly from phones)

Subjectively, maybe.
FLAC has less (no?) compression, so there's more raw data to be "heard", but to truly take advantage, you'd need a system that's beyond anything i've ever had hands-on with. I can't tell the difference between lossy and lossless codecs with my MSR7's

i figured, but from moving from cheap headphones and from my aweful dac on my phone, to what i have is much better, so figured if i can do better than that,

surely if i did get a better  small DAC to carry with me ( i travel quite a bit)  and listen to FLAC, maybe it will be even better,

or will i start getting into diminishing returns, where i cant really tell any improvements

Again, subjectively, maybe.

You might be able to, you might not. Much like I struggle to distinguish between 120/144hz, and 144-240hz is functionally identical to me, you might be able to tell a difference between lossy and lossless audio. I can't tell you which it will be.

I can hear a bit of difference between FLAC and 320 kbps MP3 through my pretty normal 2.1 PC speaker system. More fine detail in the highs with lossless, and MP3 sounds a bit flatter (that's how I put it, anyway). I spend a lot of time with music, though, and A/B'd MP3 and lossless a bunch to figure out what difference I was hearing.

FLAC takes up a lot of storage space, though. So, I have my absolute favourite music in FLAC, SHN, or WAV, while most everything else I have in MP3.
