BAD_POOL_HEADER BSOD Windows 10 help

Hello I have been getting these annoying BAD_POOL_HEADER BSOD's in windows 10 & not sure what the root cause of it could be.

 

Can someone please take a look at the dump file & help me out please ?

My current PC:

CPU: Ryzen 1600

Mobo: asrock gamigX

RAM: 32GB G.Skill TridentZ @2666mhz

GPU: GTX 1070 evga sc

2 samsung evo ssd's (256gb & 500gb)

check your temperatures, your drive health, your RAM and try running in safe mode.

All checked & look fine & checking the drive didn't report back any errors.

 

The BSOD is completely random also so it makes trying to find a use case for it impossible.

I was hoping the dump file may show exactly what triggered it but I'm not sure how to read it properly.

A pool header issue is a problem with Windows memory allocation. Device driver issues are probably the most common, but this can have diverse causes including bad sectors or other disk write issues, and problems with some routers. (By theory, RAM problems would be suspect for memory pool issues).

 

Restart computer in safe mode and check if the issue persists.

Another factor for this BSOD is your anti-virus. Uninstall it, restart and see if your problem is solved.

You can try running: BlueScreenViewer (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html)

To read through your mini dump file on your system, and see a bit better which file is the culprit

 

• If it is a system file, then usually it your RAM, and while you did run a test and said it was OK, you need to run extended and a few times at least MemTest and Windows Memory.
• If it is a driver file, you can uninstall the device or update the driver.
• If it is a program file, you can uninstall it.

Without a use case to trigger it I tried anyway for about 40 minutes & it didn't appear to happen.

I let memtest86 run for 1 hour & at test 4 it showed 25 errors so I think it is the RAM sticks themselves.

 

I am thinking of replacing them for these Corsair CMK32GX4M2A2666C16 Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4 2666 MHz C16 & getting intouch with G.Skill to RMA the current kit & may just ask for a refund depending on their response.

 

I need a decent kit asap as this is my main PC I use for work it's difficult going 1 day without this PC so I'm sure you can understand my need for another 32gb kit asap ;).

 

Should the corsair kit I linked to be able to run atleast @2666 MHz on my PC ?:

It could definitely be bad ram if memtest is getting errors, I thought you said your ram was tested and working fine...?

 

It could be your motherboard's dimm slots (though I doubt it) so an RMA of the sticks themselves may not fix it - you may be able to find out of that's the case; since you have multiple sticks try them one at a time in different slots and see if you still get memtest errors. If nothing else if any single stick works fine you can use that to work while your new kit arrives.

 

The other possible reason for your problems is a corrupted driver, which means that in safe mode you should never have problems. If you get a shutdown in safe mode that excludes a bad driver - but given your memtest results I would wager it's the ram. The corsair kit should work just fine as a replacement though if your ram is defective I would demand a substitute from gskill.

Yeah I only ran the earlier which showed nothing wrong but memtest86 found errors pretty quick (I didn't have enough free time earlier today when I started the thread to do memtest).

To be honest the motherboard dimm slots I have noticed on the Asrock gaming x can be a real pain to get the RAM to sit in properly & 'click' in so that they are properly in so not sure about that I think once I have another RAM kit here I should be able to do more tests with memtest & see what that shows if anything different. If another RAM kit also shows similar errors I may have to get a different mobo also to test out also I guess.

Just a little update I received the Corsair RAM I linked to above & for some reason they appear to in incompatible with my mobo the error code on DrDebug shows 4f when I try to use them. I have emailed Asrock waiting for a reply from them I may end up returning them for a refund.

 

I have some older sticks which I have put in (I got when I initially built this machine) now which run fine in memtest86 with no errors but I still randomly have got the same BSOD unfortunately so now I'm very confused what could actually be wrong. I have now also done a completely fresh installtion on windows after formatting the OS drive & only have steam, AMD chipset drivers, Nividia GPU drivers (tested already with latest drivers & older ones same results) Notepad++, Realtek drivers & 1 game installed.

 

Could this possibly be a motherboard issue ? maybe even power supply ?

 

I don't have these spare components to try swapping stuff out with others so I may end up building another build at this point lol

It seems to happen I notice more now when I try to play a game which uses EasyAntiCheat (needs to be enabled to play on servers) but I'm not 100% that is the root of it.
