opinion on vr

tsmspace

vr is a pretty cool idea, but there are still some problems with the implementation. for example, minecraft allows you to look around with the controller,, but last time I tried minecraft (pe vr) I had to tip my head all the way up and down to look up and down, the controller had no ability to do this. ,,,

lots of games are trying to make a gimmick out of it.

the reason for MY new post, is that I think there is a concept that would be a real contribution to the spread of goggle games. what we still need are the full range of keyboard buttons. IT's an idea to have a camera-view to see the keys so you can hold your controller, but still see the keys so you don't have to be limited to holding your hand on the keyboard in order to know where the spacebar is,,,,, and this concept is,,, we all learn braille.

sure, learning braille will be hard at first,,, and it will take time and concentration to find your keys, but muscle memory SHOULD still get you really close,,, and then over time you would get to know it anyway. (braille keyboards are like hundreds of dollars right now_. ) ...  YOu don't need to know how to READ braille, you only need to learn your few most important keys.

(basically, the idea is,, for most vr, you really need to have a game controller,,, but you really can't be WITHOUT keys to play full featured games.

Or, this revolutionary idea I have!

You learn to touch type, there are knobs on the home row for you to find your way and orient yourself without ever looking at it.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Honest answer here : The only reason I'd even think about buying a VR headset, is for porn.

As for the braille thing.... Yeah no. I don't need to see the keys to know where it is.

well, I counter with this argument,,,, You are only playing games specifically designed to work well in VR, with limited controls.

game - theory basically goes like: you can't play the game you can imagine is possible, because instead you need to play the game that you can play almost immediately without learning. ,,,, so all popular games allow a player to start getting some successful interaction with their first attempts at control. ,,,, This is NOT the case with all games on the market, just with the leading titles. However, consider FPV simulators,, where the audience is willing to endure the higher learning curve in order to allow them to have a specific kind of game, ,,, In this case (and in the case of space simulators), the audience is much smaller, but there can't be any compromise. sure, everyone will play f-zero where the crafts maintain height automatically, but with real-life machines you can't race that kind of craft. Maybe one day robots will best pilots in every situation, but for now, a real-life pilot is required for some crucial portion of every single activity robots might do, because the environment provides a situation that robots just can't overcome (while still beating humans for efficiency or utility)

even though most popular titles will be satisfied by the controllers vr comes with,,, there are imaginable games that just require more functions, and therefore a keyboard, a mouse, and a set of game controllers all at the same time. basically, simulating machines will take a lot of controls.

well, with vr, your body will be moving around,,,, so if your'e going to hit keys without seeing them, you will need to first find the keyboard, then you will need to find the key, all without looking.

there are only so many ques that you can make use of before its better to just make every single key able to be identified by itself.

but you don't want to have to bring your hand all the way down to typing position for a single button press. you want to be able to use your finger fully extended and only touch with the tip of that finger, and still be confident you are hitting the right button.

Feel your F and J keys. No need to press anything, just feel them.

Feel that? Feel how there's a bump of it? Yeah, that's how you can type without looking at the keyboard. By finding where those keys are, anyone who can type without looking, can easily position themselves correctly to type without any issues.

I know that,,, but then I have to bring my whole hand down to the keyboard, and feel around for one of two keys, so that my whole wrist can assume the right position and the correct finger can hit the key. if Every Single key was marked, I could reach down with only one finger, leave my hand at any angle i happen to require at the time (holding a game controller and such) , and know which key I am touching with my finger fully extended,

Well, that sounds like a personal problem IMO. I and many others have next to no issues quickly finding the keys or even just orienting our hands from muscle memory.

If you want braille, you can just get stickers that you can put on your current keyboard
https://www.amazon.com/Braille-Keyboard-Stickers-Visually-Impaired/dp/B001BPYJQO

But then you have to learn braille, instead of simply relying on muscle memory to remember where each keys are on your keyboard quickly.
