Intel Optane with SATA II HDD

warzkaz

I am running out of storage and I need to buy a new HDD for games , I have seen how much Optane can improve load times.
So I have decided to get HDD and Optane

Since I am going to accelerate it with Optane should I save some money and buy a cheap refurbished 2tb SATA II HDD
or get expensive SATA III HDD?

regardless of  the Sata connection, Storage drive (Green) and some other run at 5400

And Black, gold ect.. Run at 7200RPM

Those are drive speeds that have nothing to do with the Sata connection!

No. Not worth the money. If it uses SATA II interface it is probably 10+ years old. HDDs don't last forever and you're going to be risking your data and when it does eventually fail you're going to need to spend more money on a new drive anyway.

Just buy a new HDD. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, it's just a HDD after all. You can get a Seagate Barracuda 2TB for $60.

Keep in mind that Optane might not provide a great deal of benefit for accelerating a games drive. Depending on the game you might not even see any benefit between HDD, HDD (optane accelerated), or even SSD.

... Optane? Hope you're planning on using it in a different system.

WD Blacks are way overpriced. Not even worth considering imo.
