FX or APU?

So ive been thinking and want to upgrade my current system(C2q Q6600) to ether a ryzen 3 2200G or my dads fx 4170 system,the fx system will have the cpu,mobo and 32 gb ram and will be free, but  i will just have to spend money on the gpu Tl;dr  fx 4170 or ryzen 3 2200g

No need for 32gb, as 16gb is good enough.

With a Ryzen, your system will be upgradeable for at least 5 years.

That FX isn't worth the materials it's made from. Get the Ryzen.

Depends what games you play. The FX will get slaughtered in CPU intensive games and it really won't matter what GPU you put in. As was already suggested, sell the FX system (if you can) and put that towards a Ryzen build.

Should buy you a B450 motherboard + 16gb ddr4.

I missed Computex, so this is an honest question:  Did they announce that the next 5 years of CPU's will use the AM4 socket too?

They said that long before computex. AM4 is until 2020.

That's my question.  He said you can upgrade for the next 5 years, so AM4 is good til 2024 then.

no, i'm just saying the system will still be relevant for at least 5 years.

In 5 years a 3800x will still be relevant (assuming this is the top processors for b450).

oh.... That is not correct. AM4 is until 2020/21, from there on there will be AM5 with DDR5.

Ok my bad, but you also don't know when will AMD abandon support for AM4.

AM3+ is released in 2011 and the latest cpu is 2014.

And i still used my fx till 2016.

I assume they've have the last AM4 CPU's come out next year, but I am sure they'll be fine for 5 years.  Just like Intel.  My 4690K is going strong in my buddy's kids build, and the 8700K will be fine for another 3-4 years for AAA gaming easily.

Yeah, but you can't say that to an AM3. Upgrading the fx will be the deadend.

Getting AM4 will secure yourself for at least 5 years.

This isn't really even making any compromises. 

You could grab a Ryzen 3 1200, a B450M VDH, 8GB RAM instead of 16, a 4GB variant of the GPU, etc.

A used RX 570 is going for about $75 these days. I'd do that, but here's what it looks like new.
