AMD price increase

AMD seems to be "sneaking" a price increase, the 3700x has the same TDP as the 2700 and the 3800x the same as the 2700x.

If the 3700 really doesn't exist then we can't say that AMD's CPUs are still cheaper than Intel's.

Also the 3600x got a 20 USD price increase, so it's less likely we see something in between those prices (250-330).

I know you have sneaking in quotes, but like... what were they supposed to make a formal announcement that prices were "increasing?"

Well, they changed the name. I saw no one so far saying anything about the price increase, if it was Ryzen 3700 and Ryzen 3700x for 329 and 399 people would be talking already.

Of course, they were smart. But people are still going on about how AMD is a lot cheaper.

Yes they are increasing the prices, HOWEVER..the prices were already amazing compared to Intel's nonsense moneygrabbing. The 3700x destroys the 9900k on price to performance. The 3800x is more of a tough ask now, but again...it's STILL cheaper than the 9900k.

And I personally don't mind them increasing the prices here just because of the amount of work they've put into zen2 deserves it. And even though the 3700x is only slightly cheaper than the 9700k, you have to remember that the 9700k has 8 threads and not 16 threads. The 3700x has 16.

They are now beginning to ride two horses here rather than 1. Zen and Zen+ were all about gaining market share. Zen2 is still about that, but we're going to see those prices slowly climb as it becomes less about market share and more about profits. AMD still have to be careful how far they push because you never know what Intel will do in the next year or two.

Not really, the Ryzen 9 3900X flagship has the same MSRP of the Ryzen 7 1800X at launch... so... eh.

They didn't.

The 2700X started at around the same price.

And what they showed about the CPU is pretty awesome. For that to be "only" $329 is amazing...

Yeah I didn't think the 3900x would come for less, I think this is more of an issue at for Ryzen 5 and 7.

I'm saying the 2700x is equivalent to the 3800x instead of the 3700x.

Launch prices haven't increased, it's more that as of late Ryzen CPU's have been heavily discounted. The launch prices are the same as first gen Ryzen.

I feel like the 3800x isn't good enough for the price.

What should it be priced at? It's most likely going to be the best octacore CPU on the market from gaming to workstation in a month.

9900KS is going to be more expensive (and hot :D).

The 3700x seems better that's all. AMD had good prices so they increasing it doesn't make it not worth just not as amazing as it could be otherwise.

The 3600 i have seen looks like it's going to a real winner

Ryzen 5 3600 6/12 3.6/4.2 for $199

Problem is, based on napkin math, it's about the same as an 8700k.

People who already own Ryzen chips 1600/2600 who didn't want to buy into 8700ks because "you can't see the difference anyway" have no real need to upgrade to the 3600.

Assuming the 3700x can be overclocked similarly to the 1700 was, then I agree the 3800x is not a good buy, much like the 1800x wasn't.

If I were assembling today (without any PC at all) on a mid-range build, I would without question recommend or buy this, and skip all the Ryzen 7 seies:

https://www.amd.com/en/product/8456

Seems on napkin math to be essentially a $199 8700k without the exploits.

AMD has not increased launch prices. You just got used to cheaper prices.

So that proves that there isn't a price increase. 3700X was released at the same Price as 2700X -> 329 USD.

And there will be a 6 Core/12 Thread CPU for 199 and 249USD

Why do you think that?!
Because of TDP?!

There is no reason to assume that...

The 3700X is already performing pretty good and should beat the shit out of 2700X.

What basis does this claim have?

The Name clearly states that the 3700X is the sucessor to the 2700X as the 2700X was the successor to the 1700X.

Exactly my point, you use that name and increase the price. Tell me, what if there is no 3700 version? What do you want me to base this upon other than they not releasing a 3700 and having the TDP of the 2700 in the 3700x?
