Steam vs. Epic

I'd love Steam if it would give me the ability to download offline launchers for their games. I'd buy everything on GOG if I could, because if my internet is down, my entire Steam and Uplay libraries go with it. Ditto if Valve and Ubisoft were to go bankrupt overnight.

You can always just download pirated copies of the same games you bought. This way they'll always be yours regardless of what might happen to Steam/Ubisoft.

Ryzen 1600x @4GHz

Asus GTX 1070 8GB @1900MHz

16 GB HyperX DDR4 @3000MHz

Asus Prime X370 Pro

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

Noctua NH-U14S

Seasonic M12II 620W

+ four different mechanical drives.

I try to act responsibly... so that means I don't support companies with ethics in the toilet. So with regards to gaming companies.. I've boycotted EA for more than a decade and will never by one of their games (aside from the ones I already owned when they were available on steam).

The same goes for companies that are supported by or in countries with terrible human rights issues... I will not visit countries that abuse their citizens and I try my best to avoid companies that are from those same regimes.

Epic are majority owned by tencent, who have ties to the Chinese govt... China is an oppressive regime, that has a terrible history of human rights abuses that continues to this day. they are actively trying to buy up or into western companies to 'improve' their image around the world... Which is why you are now seeing such China friendly movies coming out... due to ownership/funding for them.

It does get a little trickier when it comes to technology... So I do try to stick to brands that make stuff outside of China, but that's not always possible... So I try to limit the value of things I do buy.

I try not to make political posts on tech forums... but in this instance, my moral/ethical stand is more important than a few 'shiny' toys... I cannot and will not support unethical morally bankrupt companies/countries.

My stand may be insignificant, but it's all I can really do... If only others would take a strong stand too.
