Need a sub 500$ PC for my friend

Go to solution Solved by Yifti,

Thanks everyone!

Hello!

Title says it all.

The cheaper, the better. The actual budget is 400$-ish, but I want to see what are the options from the better and then see what to downgrade. HAS to be able to VR.

My goal in this post is to see main components, storage and whatnot can decide with him.

Thanks!

You likely wont get anything thats anywhere remotely VR ready at that price point.

Are you sure? I see a lot of people running with similar prices. Obviously not at the highest frames, but definitely playable.

This looks good. Thanks! And I can probably save more because I don't think there's a need for an SSD.

Intel Build:

AMD Build:

Extremely difficult to go below 500$ and VR, I could've gone with a 2400G yes, but that CPU is based on 1st Gen Ryzen and I doubt that it can deliver high frame rates consistently, and just so you know Ryzen 3000 will be announced in 2 weeks, I advise that he waits for that to see what it offers

Storage up to him as you said

it gives a nice boost to the system, but a smaller one is a valid option

Buy a Used GPU.  I recommend the R9 390X or R9 390.  You'll be able to VR at 1080 for about 80-90 bucks.

yes ofc, in my opinion if he wants to go below 500$ for a good VR experience, buying second hand would be the best idea
