If you want local storage for real big files, a NAS would do, look into Synology units. They make 6, 8, 12, and various other bay amounts. Populating one with a bunch of 6TB drives and configuring them using the online tool is a snap.

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

in a pinch, yes, but not the long term. i've had bad luck with USB SATA readers, a quarter of the time i've lost data on

That's a horrible idea, especially for video editing.

He should be using a proper desktop computer or NAS.
