Does my Mobo Support NVMe?

This is my mobo Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 I'm not sure if the m.2 slot on it supports NVMe. 
On the site it says M.2 slot PCI-Express up to 10Gb/s
I could only find on Amazon Q&A one person asking

I am no expert but isn't nvme just a pcie interface on m.2

Yes. With the right adapter you can plug any pcie devices in there.

Am I off base in thinking it only applies to PCIe 3rd gen, though?
