Hey guys I've been doing my research on these cable types but I'm still confused... I just want to get the best out of my internet.

I have a 10mbps fiber subscription service at the moment.

What would be the best cable type to use? I'm very confused with the videos and websites... Hope someone can help me out. ?

EDIT: Should I get a wifi card instead? Or a wifi USB dongle?

If it helps, I game a lot... I play MOBAs and MMOs ?

So which is best for me?

First if you are getting only 10mbps on fiber you are getting ripped off hardcore.

5e is rated to do 1 Gbps

6a is rated to do 10 Gbps

7 is rated to do 10 Gbps at longer distances than 6a

Hope that helps

Edit: 6a is a safe bet to go with for future proofing

Philippines has one of the slowest internet services in the world, so I'm not surprised.

I don't think 6a exists here... Only 6 ?

Ah poor Island countries get shafted on Internet speeds, if you can't get 6a then get 7 if you can get your hands on it. It is more expensive though, but 5e really won't be bad either. With speeds that low it doesn't really matter when connecting to the Internet but if you use your LAN at all try to go for faster speeds for your own sanity.

well spaceX has had it's first successful landing of all 3 rockets I am sure probably in the next few years amazon can put up their 3000 sats in space. ( just from what I have read amazon wants sats in space so it can provide internet everywhere but could be a rumor)

Technically the cable categories are just a measure of bandwidth over distance so it's a bit more complicated than that. The numbers you are quoting here are for 100m which is quite a bit longer than what you'd expect in a typical run for a house. Yes Cat5e for 1Gbps speeds because it easily meets the spec and is basically the cheapest cable you can get. But for "future proofing" to 10Gbps in a typical house you can probably get away with Cat6 rather than Cat6e because in a typical house you runs will be well under 50m. And Cat7 is complete a waste of time, don't bother with it.

With that said @Rhaemond is only talking about connecting to the internet so all of this discussion is completely useless anyways. Even if they had a super fantastic internet connection I highly doubt they're going to anywhere near saturating 1Gbps. Hell, even if they have a file server and are asking about transferring files, even then the value of 10Gbps at this stage is pretty slim. Put simply, anyone who is unsure about what cable they should get? Very unlikely they'll know enough to actually be able to take advantage of 10Gbps so probably best to just go with Cat5e.

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing

Hopefully that happens soon... I hate slow internet!!!
