The latest update to ATX 12v (standard used for PC power supplies) was done in 2013, hardly meaning new CPU's need the newest PSU's.

Now of course it might have been this person's way of telling you "hey, I know what PSU you have and it is not fit for a new system", but just flatout saying.. What you typed above is wrong.

It's almost 10 years old so will lack the support for modern C-States for energy saving modes which could be what the person was referring to in regards to replacing it with a new PSU to "support" modern Intel CPUs (Haswell onwards). (Kind of a really shit explanation of it, but it's 4:45am so eh)

OP, What are the specs of the system you were thinking of buying?

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

It was a good PSU 10 years ago.

It was released mit 2010. Yes, its that old.

And with that it might be old enough to look for a new unit...

Can't support something when it doesn't exist ;)
That unit predates the modern C-States by a couple of years.

Though some older LLC Resonant designs might have Problems with too low loads and switch off.

Anyway, due to age, its not the best idea to use this PSU...
