RAM heatspreaders have been all looks since DDR2 passed. Go as far with it as it passes memtest 86 while keeping in the voltage limits and all that.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Would my ram be fine with it?

I know people are saying heat spreaders are for looks etc, but if your sticks get too hot stability will be affected. keep that in mind, as others have said, another stick running in dual channel will be a good start then overclock from there.

Heat spreaders are not for aesthetics, they do have a thermal pad to dissipate heat, how much that helps I don't know, but I can feel the same temperature all around the heat spreader, so that means it's working.

Though as long as you have air on those RAM sticks, then it should be fine to overclock

Due to not many people overclocking RAM, there hasn't been much research into how well they help, Ram overclocking is a dark art. Not many know how to do it and the amount of different ram sticks you can buy all have very different overclocking results.

you will do allot more for the speed of your ram if you add another stick of the same speed ram and run dual channel.  But like everyone else said the heat spreader is mainly for looks.

Ok, will do. My upgrade path is 2 sticks of 8GB of corsair vengeance.

Not sure about you but I think my 7 year old CPU still rips
