Will overclocking ram shorten its life?

I have 3 sticks of ram in my pc (dont ask why 3) but they are ddr4-2666mhz and I overclocked them to 2800mhz because it ran stable and im wondering if it will shorten its life?

 

Yes i know 2666mhz isnt the fastest but its wayyy better than my old pc which had ddr3 at 1333mhz

If it's stable then it should be fine.

When overclocking anything there is always a possibility that it will shorten that item's life span but if you do it correctly you will be fine.

It can but its more likely that the ram will become outdated before it fails.   Also ram is fairly cheap so why not get the extra bump if you can.

Any increase in voltage, regardless of size, will result in the item degrading at an increased rate.

 

Though when we're talking very small voltage changes, who really cares if their processor, for example, will "live" for twelve years of thirteen years.

most motherboards die before the cpu... so even if it would, it doesn't hurt

 

and most chips are designed to at least hold a 10% increase just fine
