Yup its a bad unit. I had this one and I replaced it within 2 month of usage as it was causing random pc reboots.

Use this link for reference https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1045610-new-psu-tier-list/

It's pretty bad, but it's not some type of fire hazard.

Within the next 3-6 months, I would recommend upgrading to a Corsair CX(M) series, FSP Aurum series, beQuiet System Power 9 series, Corsair Vengeance series or something close to that

Ryzen 7 3700X / 16GB RAM / Optane SSD / GTX 1650 / Solus Linux

No, it's fine. It's just that it'll last only 3-4 years, and it could kill some components when it does die.

It really helps to know what PSU you have.

Something like a Corsair VS isn't going to kill your PC, but a no name piece of shit quite possibly will.

@Barry220 Does your PSU have gray label or bronze-coloured label?

ow... that one... i would highly recommend changing that one right now

long story short: two versions, gray and orange label

orange label is kinda a firehazard

gray is still group regulation, but not a firehazard

I would recommend to check the psu tier list (new)

You haven't explained to me what exactly makes the orange VS a fire hazard...

yeah, I'm going the other way around:

the cx green <750w and vs orange are known as firehazards. explain why they aren't

and anyways, both are sleeve bearing double forward group regulated, so i wouldn't recommend them anyways

Bcause it's very rare for a power supply with several safety certificates, from a reputable company, a complete set of filtering (including surge and inrush protection), decently rated components, and a 14-pin protection IC, to cause a fire.

You must have some logic, or even an example, of the VS being a firehazard?

1 hour ago, LukeSavenije said:

sleeve bearing

Lesser longevity.

1 hour ago, LukeSavenije said:

double forward

Possible coil whine. Lower efficiency.

group regulated

Is the only factor you mentioned that really applies to OP.

OP, I'd replace the unit when you start seeing/hearing issues, when you want to use the deep sleep states, or when warranty ends (three years).

Value Select is Corsair's lowest tier of hardware, the VS PSU should be avoided personally speaking, it's pretty common for them to have very short life spans and there is always the chance for a failure that harms your other components.
