Is there a specific reason you need this to work? Off the top of my head I can't see how this is practical

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

because spending $50 to have faster storage than my failing hdd is a much better option then dishing out more for less!
also planning on upgrading in a few years by then motherboards with m.2 will be much more cost effective.

Damn fix that post.

It most likely will, and if you have the NVMe drive already go ahead.

well see everyone says "as long as your bios supports it then you're fine" so then im like well m.2 didnt exist around that computer so why would it support it? could i flash a new bios?

What's the PC for? It's rather likely NVMe is not going to be any better for you than a SATA SSD. With SATA, you don't have to worry about compatibility.

just get a 500GB MX500 Crucial.

for regular use you are not gonna notice the difference between it and the best NVME m.2 on the market.

NVME is really only for professional use where you need the extra transfer speed

It should since its basically just a physical adapter it's not doing anything special. Like you are aware you won't be booting to it (easily, there are technically ways to make it happen without native NVMe support) but you may be able to use it as an extremely fast secondary storage drive.

Just buy a normal Sata 3 2,5 inch SSD which is likely to be absurdly better than a failing HDD.

NVMe is for extremely specific professional workloads, common usage sees no benefits from it comparing to common Sata 3 SSDs.

If your computer is so old it doesn't even have a M.2 port it's likely NVMe will cause you issues.

By the time you do upgrade to a new motherboard in "a few years" you'll probably need a new drive any ways.
