My prospective purchase is 2 pairs of Seinnheiser HD 518's for a GA-Z77X-UD3H  and an MSI Z8-45 build. I am unclear as to whether I even need amps for these headphones. Are they necessary or should I wait and hear for myself?

If so, is there any way we can share one amp? Looking for something under $60 if so.

I apologize for my moronic questions. I did read through the sticky and didn't see an exact answer.

They seem to have an impedance of 50 ohms, and I don't imagine them going much higher at certain frequencies(that's what I heard some headphones do) and they probably don't have a low sensitivity.

So no amp would be my deductive guesstimation

Aha!...I'm getting better at this. I didn't think it was necessary for these. I'll let him know. Is it a complete waste of money to get a FiiO E6 Portable Headphone Amplifier? Just want to make doubly sure before I try to talk him out of getting one.

Well, I have a pair of PC360's, which use basically the same drivers as the 518, 558 and 598, and they're also 50 ohm. It's loud enough for me (and I have slightly impaired hearing) at max 30% for most things. I have basically the same onboard audio as you, using  Realtek ALC892, on a Sabertooth 990FX R2, no high-powered amp in use for me.
