How to remove laptop stripped screw

bluedino

Hi,
on the back of my laptop I have a really really bad stripped screw head. I already tried the super glue and the rubber band.I'm wondering if I should buy a drill to remove it. Is a 6v drill/screwdriver will be enough? Do I need something special? I never used a drill before.

You probably don’t want to use a drill on a laptop

Take a picture and post on here if possible. It can give us a better idea of the damage done

Post a pic

If it's soft you can sometimes jam a larger torx head into it

I've used a rubber band before.  Slow with force.

That depends on where the screw is located. And also the screw type.

Is it flush with the surface? Is it protruding? Is the head thick enough to cut a groove on it?

The head is pretty flush on the surface. I'm wondering if I can find a kind of mini dremel.

Is there something to cut the screw then I could use a flat screwdriver.

You can use a very fine file to cut a slot into it if the screw is large enough but if not your best bet would be to use a left hand drill bit. If you're lucky it will catch and break loose the screw.

Oh yes, I had forgotten about the screw extractors! it often consists of two drill bits, the first drills the head and the second bites into the screw and removes it, I'll paste some pictures I found on Amazon and Lowe's (There are plenty of options!):

You could hold the screw extractor in a tap wrench for your convenience:
